4 years ago, when I ran for Commissioner, I proposed that it was a conflict of interest for the Commissioner's to vote on
their own Salary. I still feel the same way.
As a County Commissioner, you are elected by the People of Curry County, and therefore, the citizens of Curry County are
the boss. The current system needs to be reformed, and the boss needs the final say, not the employee.
I would propose one of the following two reforms NEEDS to happen.
1). Whenever the budget committee makes a recommendation for a pay raise for the Commissioner, that recommendation should
go on the next ballot
or
2). A set pay scale should be developed, just like regular County employees, for the Commissioner's and that it what they
get.
