Being a former County Employee, I can speak from experience how disrupting and poor for morale it is to
have a Commissioner come in like they own the place.
As a County, we are already paying the Department Heads to do
the day to day management of their departments. My belief is to let them do the job that we are paying for. The job of the
Commissioner is to make sure that the Department Head is doing their job. If the department is staying within budget, and
there are no complaints reaching the Commissioners' office about the service being provided, then there is no reason to be
in that departments office, disrupting business. A Commissioner's job should be to help figure out budget issues if the department
is having trouble staying in budget, and helping department heads figure resolve problems that come up in providing service,
if the department head is unable to resolve the issue themselves.
After that, the Commissioner should be representing
the people that elected them to office. Figuring ways to keep the County's coffers in the black. Finding ways to open doors
for economic development. Making sure that County Ordinances make sense, and represent what the people of Curry County want.
In short, finding ways to make sure Curry County remains that great place to live that we who call it home know it is.
If elected by the people of Curry County, I plan on concentrating more to our needs inside our borders. While some
trips outside of the County would be needed to maintain our presence on many of the specialized committees, I would reduce
my face to face contact with this groups to once or twice a year, and attend the majority of those meetings either by teleconference,
or video conference. That way, when the meeting is over, I am already home and ready to get on with the next order of
business.
